The efficacy and safety of Otikon™ ear drops, or naturopathic drops, has been studied in children with ear pain associated with otitis media.
1. Efficient treatment of ear pain associated with acute otitis media
█ Anesthetic █ OtikonTM
Pain relief on the first, second and third day at the time of application, 15 minutes and 30 minutes after application.
Children aged 6-18 years with ear pain (otalgia).
N = 103, 36 patients with bilateral OMA. 3-day therapy.
Group A – OtikonTM (5 drops 3 times a day).
Group B – kdrops with anesthetic (5 drops 3 times a day)
OtikonTM is equally effective as analgesic ear drops and is proven to be useful in the treatment of ear pain caused by acute otitis media.

2. Treatment of ear pain in children
█ Anesthetic with antibiotic █ Otikon™ + antibiotic
█ Anesthetic █ Otikon™
Pain relief on the first, second and third day at the time of application, 15 minutes and 30 minutes after application.
171 children aged 5 – 18 years with otalgia and clinical findings indicating middle ear infection. 3-day therapy.
Group A – OtikonTM – 5 drops 3 times a day.
Group B – OtikonTM – 5 drops 3 times a day + amoxicillin 80 mg/kg/day divided into 3 doses.
Group C – topical anesthetic (ametocaine and phenazone in glycerin) – 5 drops 3 times a day.
Group D – topical anesthetic – 5 drops 3 times a day + amoxicillin 80 mg/kg/d divided into 3 doses.
In cases of ear pain caused by otitis media in which active treatment, besides simply a 2- to 3-day waiting period, is needed, Otikon™ ear drops may be very beneficial.

3. Therapy of acute otitis media: Efficiency compared to antibiotic therapy
█ Amoxicillin █ Otikon™
Pain relief on the first, second and third day at the time of application, 15 minutes and 30 minutes after application.
200 children aged 5 – 18 years with OMA-related ear pain. 3-day therapy
Group 1 – OtikonTM 5 drops 3 times a day and placebo syrup 3 doses a day.
Group 2 – amoxicillin syrup 80 mg/kg/day divided into 3 doses per day and placebo ear drops, 3 doses per day
OtikonTM is at least as effective as amoxicillin for the resolution of middle ear effusion and significantly better for the management of ear pain associated with OMA.
Its use reduces the need for systemic antibiotic treatment, without an increased risk of secondary complications.
We suggest that in children older than 5 years with a diagnosis of acute otitis media, initial antibiotic treatment be replaced with OtikonTM.
